Another packed house for Event #2. At bagging time, France’s Romain Arnaud had snatched the chip lead, having increased his 300,000 starting stack to 3.030 million — the kind of stack someone would be happy to take to the final table. Moirhums = Romain Arnaud molswi47 = Will Molson shipdatboi (2+2) MrSweets28 = Phil 'OMGClayAiken' Galfond Twitter, Blog, 2+2 Well, G-Bucks, Pokerstatic, Pokercast, Pokerroad. Rui Cao v Romain Arnaud. High Stakes dragon v high stakes dragon. Compatriot v compatriot. Friend v friend. When it comes to multi-table tournaments (MTTs), both players are vastly inexperienced, but the smart money would have gone the way of Cao, after some sterling performances in Triton Poker Series events of late.
Thirty-four-year-old Lamb beat Romain Arnaud heads-up to top a 42-entry field, banking HKD 7.65 million ($994,500), his largest tournament cash outside of his two WSOP finals. He came second in the pot limit Omaha tournament only a few days ago here at the Maestral Resort & Casino, Budva, but now has his hands on a first trophy. Romain finished in second place, earning $639,600. Lamb took down his first Triton Poker title, earning $994.500 in the process. Lamb told reporters that it “feels good” to win the title and would head back to Las Vegas to play some golf before playing in the 2019 World Series of Poker.
Another day, another huge tournament here on the Triton Poker Series. And we’re not even talking about Justin Bonomo’s latest victory — although that did happen too, of course.
But while poker’s hottest talent was adding another US$500,000 and change to his ledger, another massive field was assembling at the at the Landing Casino, in the Shinhwa World Jeju Resort, for the second tournament of the week. This time is was a HK$500,000 buy-in short deck event, which attracted 69 entries (including 24 re-entries). That’s more even than the tournament with a buy-in half the size.
That’s the way things go here on the Triton series, where poker’s normal rules are turned on their head. Raise the buy-in, watch the fields swell. And that means the prize pool does as well. Some time tomorrow, one of the 14 remaining at the end of today’s 11 levels will win the HK$9.730 million first prize. That’s around $1.24 million in USD and the first seven-figure tournament prize of the 2019 Triton tournament series. It will not be the last.
At bagging time, France’s Romain Arnaud had snatched the chip lead, having increased his 300,000 starting stack to 3.030 million — the kind of stack someone would be happy to take to the final table. The man known online as “moirhums” is also a formidable live tournament player, who beat his countryman Rui Cao heads up here in Jeju in another Super High Roller tournament last December. “I got really lucky,” Arnaud admitted at the end of the day, with a bashful chuckle. “Against Rui again.”
Arnaud then described how he cracked Cao’s pocket aces twice, once by rivering a set of tens and another time by taking pocket kings up against the aces and winning that too. It’s how come Cao was on the rail by the end, while Arnaud is at the top of the leader board.
Almost everyone who played the first event came back for another shot today, but it a few of the new faces who got the photographers’ shutters clicking with most eagerness. Both Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Timofey “Trueteller” Kuznetsov played their first tournament of the week.
It was important that the photographers were so on their game, because neither Dwan nor Kuznetsov lasted the night. At least Dwan fired only one bullet, while Kuznetsov misfired with three. Gabe Patgorski hit the rail after five buy-ins, Mike Watson headed back to his room after four.
But they need not worry about missing the action. Tomorrow we have a HK$500,000 6-Max tournament starting (and they’ll be using all 52 cards in that one).
Here’s the full list of counts for the remaining players. Yes, that’s the same Bonomo in there with heaps of chips as the man who won Event #1. He hopped straight into this one and continued the fun. Full payout schedule is below. This tournament resumes at 2pm local time tomorrow and plays to a winner, while Event #3 starts at 4pm.

Yesterday saw 6 players play at the Final Table of the first Super High Roller event of the festival. The event had a guaranteed prize pool of KRW 1 billion but after witnessing 44 entries, including 13 re-entries, the guarantee was crushed generating more than doubling the prize pool to KRW 2,508,000,000 (~INR 15.84 Crores), making it the biggest ever prize pool for a Korean-based PokerStars tournament.
France pro and cash game expert Romain Arnaud shipped the event and took home a colossal KRW 748,000,000 (~INR 4.7 Crores) after defeating fellow countryman Rui Cao in heads-up. Both the players agreed on an ICM split before entering heads-up. The deal saw Cao bag KRW 694,100,000 out of the prize pool, playing for the trophy and title.
The all-French heads-up battle saw a blind all-in shoot out for the trophy after the deal was struck. Arnaud was leading in chips the entire day but lost the first hand and it took him four more hands to secure the 1st place and the trophy. The final hand saw Arnaud with Kc 8c beating Cao’s 10c 2d on a Qc Jd 5c Ah Jh board.
This is Arnaud’s first ever live win and his second cash out in any recorded live event. His first was finishing 9th at the Triton Highroller series in 2016, winning $207,429. This victory brings Arnaud’s total live winnings up to $875,000, just from two events.

Both Arnaud and Cao are excellent poker players who also happen to be good friends, hailing from the same country and all.
“Everyone played well at the final table, and it was nice to end up playing heads-up against my very good friend Rui Cao,” said Arnaud after his victory. “It’s a good feeling, but I’m predominantly a cash game player and that’s what I’ll be sticking to.“
Other notables to rank in the top 6 were the Malaysian pro and 2018 EPT Barcelona High Roller winner Michael Soyza and the 2018 WSOP LEON’s High Roller winnerIvan Seng Yee Leow.
